If you’re planning on visiting sunny Devon this summer, then you should plan to do it in style. To help you plan for your holiday, we have put together a list of EV-friendly places to visit and stay, if you are looking at car hire in Devon this summer. Best Western Tiverton

Located in mid-Devon is the Best Western Tiverton hotel.This three-star hotel is situated on the outskirts of the market town, Tiverton, and is just 10 minutes from junction 27 on the M5. The hotel features free WI-FI throughout the hotel, as well as free parking onsite. This hotel also has a ZeroNet electric vehicle charging point, perfect for anyone who is looking to rent an electric car. The charge point features a 3kW 3-pin charger, and a 7kW Type 2 charger, capable of charging a variety of EVs. Pets are also allowed in the hotel’s standard rooms for a small fee, making it perfect for families with pets who need a break. Just a short drive away into the town of Tiverton are a variety of attractions including, Tiverton Castle, and the Tiverton Museum Of Mid Devon Life. Further away, but still close enough for any EV, are Exmoor and Dartmoor National parks, for those families who love the outdoors.

Bovey CastleBovey Castle - Devon

Bovey Castle is a five-star luxury hotel located on 275 acres of beautiful countryside in the heart of Dartmoor National Park. The location of this hotel is what makes it so special. Dartmoor National Park is a great place to spend a holiday, and is perfect for families with a variety of different tastes. One thing that everyone can agree on however, is that the view is beautiful.

The hotel also has an 18-hole championship golf course for those avid golfers; the course spans the entire estate, and has been open for nearly 90 years. You can also stay in one of 22 private estate lodges that are situated within the grounds, each with three en suite bedrooms, and a fully kitted out kitchen. EV parking is available at this hotel with a single Type 2 charger.

Diggerland Devon Campsite

Diggerland Devon Campsite is a terrific place for a short break with the family. The campsite is only a short drive from the M5, junctions 27 and 28, and is situated right next to the Diggerland Devon park. With only a 30 minute drive to Exeter and a 40 minute drive to Exmoor National Park, you’re never far away from a shopping centre or a top attraction.

There are a variety of different types of pitches available, ranging from standard tent pitches to pitches with electricity and caravan pitches. The campsite also has a toilet block with ladies and gents WCs and showers, for those who want a few home comforts with their camping experience. There are three EV charging points in the Diggerland car park, one Type 2 connector, and two Tesla connectors, so you need not worry about finding somewhere to charge up.


Diggerland Devon ParkDiggerland - Devon

The Diggerland Devon Park is an awesome place to stop off, especially for families with children. Just a few minutes from junctions 27, 28 on the M5, it’s the perfect place for a fun day out that the whole family can enjoy. Explore the 20 different rides and drives, including: operating real digger whilst digging for Buried Treasure, or racing your family and friends on the Go Karts. There is even an indoor soft play area for younger visitors who just want to run around.

The park also has EV charging stations, which can be used for up to two hours for a small fee. If you’ve rented a car from EVision Electric Car Hire, you’ll be able to use these chargers free of charge by showing confirmation of your hire to the front desk at Diggerland. We can also provide EVision customers with a discount voucher, so you can save money and have fun doing it.

Exclusive to Diggerland Devon is also Diggerlakes, where the avid anglers out there can enjoy a spot of carp fishing in the beautiful Devon sunshine.

Exeter CathedralExeter Cathedral - Devon

One of the most impressive attractions in Devon has to be Exeter Cathedral. Situated in the heart of Exeter, the cathedral has stood for over 900 years. Construction began in 1114, and a major rebuild took place between 1270 and 1350 in Decorated Gothic style, however two of the original Norman towers and the nave walls from the original build still remain. The cathedral is open to the public for a small fee, and is free for children under 18 in a family group.

Not only is the cathedral itself an outstanding attraction, but it is in the heart of the city, so it is close to all the local shops and restaurants, so you could spend half a day in the cathedral, and the rest of it wandering around the high street shopping. There are multiple car parks around the city with EV charging points, including in the Cathedral & Quay car park which has a Pod Point with two Type 2 charging points.


Princesshay Shopping Centre

The Princesshay shopping centre is a decent-sized shopping mall in the centre of Exeter, and has a wealth of big-name stores such as: Topshop, Apple, and M.A.C, and a whole host of others. This would be a fantastic place to visit on the last day of your trip, so you can go home with lots of new clothes and toys. There are also multiple charge points around the city, including in the Guildhall shopping centre car park and the John Lewis car park which both have two Type 2 Pod Point charging stations.

There are also a range of restaurants and fast food places around town and within the mall, including Nando’s, Byron and Cafe Rouge, where you can have a proper sit down meal, or just a quick bite to eat.

Affinity Outlet Devon

Affinity Outlet Devon is an out of town shopping mall with a number of big brand stores at discounted outlet prices. The mall features factory outlets from Nike, Gap, Mountain Warehouse, and a multitude of others, so you’ll be spoilt for choice! If you’re out and about with your children, and they are starting to get a bit restless, visit the World of Wonder Play Centre within the mall, and let them burn off some energy. 

There may not be charging points located directly at the shopping mall, but just down the road located at a BP garage, there is an InstaVolt charge point fitted with a CHAdeMo and CCS Charger, perfect for you to stop off at after your shopping trip.


River Exe Cafe

Whether you’re coming to the end of your break, or just starting, after a day of shopping a meal out is the perfect way to end any day. Have you ever fancied eating out on a converted barge? Well now you can!
